A few years ago I came up with an entirely new take on ALADDIN creating an entire history and timeline for him and his family that went way beyond anything that Disney imagined. It treated his family as something akin to Jedi knights whose destiny it was to guard the cave of magic. Only his family could enter which is why the evil magician needed Aladdin to enter and bring back the lamp. In my version it wasn't a cave but an entire underground city that was now a vast repository of all the magical objects in the world.
The actual character designs for the project were all created by Imaginary Friends Studios. I also got to work with old friend ARTHUR SUYDAM who did two great covers for the project.
Arthur came up with this piece which I really loved. It has Aladdin is the backstreets of Shamballah after he has escaped from Maughrah (the evil wizard).

The story Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves was not originally part of the Arabian Nights stories but was added to some versions later by European translators.
In my version, Scheherazade, who had to tell the stories of the Arabian Nights is actually Aladdin's mother.
